The FARROP was commissioned by the FAST SCASS, to provide guidelines and resources for use in observations and reflections on formative assessment practices. It is not an evaluative tool, rather it should be used to encourage reflection, provide feedback, and facilitate conversations for continuous improvement.
As formative assessment is a process, the concept can be captured through three questions that are cyclical and ongoing. These three questions should be used to improve teaching and learning both for teachers and students and serve to frame the FARROP work.
It is intended to be a tool for reflection, observation, feedback and ongoing improvement.
